People Like Us

Archival Inkjet on Paper

STATEMENT

As with the Monologue series I’ve been drawn to how we assign identities and emotions to these pieces of human-like plastic. We have played with them giving them a fantasy life and to some degree adopting those fantasies as our own. The title is to be read in three different ways depending on where the emphasis or punctuation is placed. In one it becomes a statement of affirmation, ”People like us.” Another becomes a statement of similarity, “People like us”. With punctuation it turns into a command, “People, like us!”
